Five Wishes

Five Wishes: How Answering One Simple Question Can Make Your Dreams Come True

by Gay Hendricks

This book teaches us the importance of reflecting on what we could regret most from our death beds, and then deliberating defining our lives to prioritize what is most important. This parable goes through the process of the characters first reflecting on their life from their future deathbed and thinking “the main reason my life was not a total success is because I did not…1,2,3,4,5,” and then it shifts to “For my life to have been a total success, I wish I’d…1,2,3,4,5,” and finally settles on “My life is a total success because I’m now…1,2,3,4,5.” Here are my five wishes…

My life is a total success because I’m now (1) giving enough of myself and my unique abilities to help as many people as possible each day.

My life is a complete success because I’m now (2) marrying my best friend to spend each day together growing our love, laughter, joy, and bliss together.

It’s also a success because I’m now (3) making enough time to commit to my family, loved ones, and children.

And I’m now (4) coaching and empowering enough Leaders for future generations to survive, persevere, grow, and thrive.

My life is a total success because I’m now (5) maintaining and nurturing a healthy relationship with God to support all Pillars of my Life.

Key Points for Reflection

You are defined by who you choose to be while doing what you do.

The bigger the question, the more important it is to answer it right.

This moment is all the time needed now.

Regardless of what emotions, feelings, or limiting beliefs come up, I open the door and say, “Welcome.”

Live your life with knowledge of real happiness.

Keep breathing when emotions arise.

Play the game of life with full commitment.

I feel happy wherever I go, whatever I’m doing.

We can change the way our next chapter will be written because we are still holding the pen.
